Intro and Challenges

ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute needed two consecutive years of their State of Southeast Asia Survey Report transformed into publications that policymakers and regional stakeholders would actually engage with. The survey report design challenge was significant — dense geopolitical data, complex cross-country comparisons, and nuanced findings that resist simplification. Presenting this material as raw data or plain text would undermine the credibility and reach of one of Southeast Asia’s most closely watched annual surveys.

The harder design problem was consistency: selecting the right visual approach for each individual question — matching chart type, infographic format, and layout to the specific nature of each data set — while maintaining a coherent visual language across the entire report.

Solutions

LivelyGreen Strategic Brand approached the survey report design with clarity and structure as the primary objectives. Clean layouts and strong typography created an intuitive reading flow, guiding stakeholders through complex findings without cognitive overload. Data visualisation was applied selectively and deliberately — each chart and infographic chosen to suit the specific question it represented, rather than applied uniformly. Information was grouped into clearly defined sections with visual cues that made the report easy to navigate on first read and easy to reference repeatedly. The result was a data visualisation survey report that made complex geopolitical insights genuinely accessible without oversimplifying what the data actually showed.

Impact

The completed survey report design was published across two consecutive editions — the State of Southeast Asia 2025 and 2026 Survey Reports — through ISEAS, one of the region’s most respected policy research institutions. The final publications enhanced readability, strengthened ISEAS’s credibility with regional stakeholders, and demonstrated how to present survey findings in a format that earns serious attention from serious audiences.
